Van Morrison n’est pas dieu ; mais Mister Morrison et Dieu, y a sujet et matière à émission.
Né à Belfast en 1945 d’une mère croyante et pratiquante et d’un père athée,
Van Morrison n’a cessé de se poser la question de Dieu.
Qu’il l’appelle God, Lord ou encore The One, Morrison est un chercheur de Dieu,
“affamé de paradis” (“Hungry for Heaven” pour reprendre le titre d’un livre du critique rock Steve Turner).
Pour autant, y a-t-il besoin d’intermédiaires entre nous et Dieu ?
Que nenni, semble dire Van Morrison à plusieurs reprises.
Avec “No guru, no method, no teacher” d’abord en 1986.
Et puis avec “No religion” parue en 1995 sur l’album ‘Days Like This”.
Pas de guru, pas de méthode, pas de prof donc. Pas de religion non plus, mais Dieu(x), oui.
